Gledhill manufactures a wide range of water heaters using a number of different technologies to fit different needs. The company’s Stainless Lite line of water heaters comprises everything from unvented models to thermal store heaters to systems designed specifically to work with renewable energy sources like solar or heat pumps.
We have assembled a range of important information regarding Gledhill’s Stainless Lite series of water heaters to ensure that you are able to learn more about the system in your home, how it works, and the potential problems that might occur during use.
The Gledhill Stainless Lite series features high-quality stain resistant duplex stainless steel used for the construction of the water cylinder. Each cylinder is designed to withstand specific pressures and heat levels, and the construction process adheres to high standards, using methods such as automated welding to help provide high cylinder strength and durability. All models are stress tested to 12 bar at the factor, and utilise EnviroFoam insulation, which is HCFC free.
Additionally, the company guarantees all of their cylinders for up to 25 years, provided that they are professionally serviced each year. Note that some home insurance policies are invalid if annual maintenance is not performed on unvented hot water heaters.
However, EasyFlow technicians focus primarily on the company’s unvented models, direct, indirect, direct solar and indirect solar, all of which are also designed to use off-peak electricity for heating the tank. These require regular maintenance to ensure proper operation and to comply with the manufacturer’s requirements for honouring the 25-year guarantee.
The Gledhill Stainless Lite comes equipped from the factory with two immersion heaters, both of which feature thermal cut outs. These cannot be replaced with immersion heaters without cut outs, and should only be replaced by an experienced EasyFlow technician.
The Stainless Lite series features 16 different models (between the direct and indirect options). They range in size/capacity from 90 litres at the low end to 300 litres at the high end. Note that the smallest 90-litre model only uses a single immersion heater with a thermal cut out. All other units, while designed primarily for use with off-peak electricity can be operated with peak electricity (for the boost immersion heater). Indirect models also incorporate a corrugated heat exchange tube which is responsible for improving heat transfer rates. Temperature capacities are set at the factory and should not be adjusted by homeowners.
While the manufacturer produces quite a wide range of models, they suffer from similar faults. We detail some of the most common below.
Relief Valve Discharge: If cold water is discharging into the tundish from the relief valve, the expansion vessel may need to be recharged. On the other hand, the problem may also lie with the pressure reducing vale or the relief valve.
No Hot Water: The most common cause of no hot water is immersion heater failure, but scale build up, and other factors can also leave homeowners with little or no hot water at the taps.Common Faults with the Gledhill Stainless Lite Series
Leaks: Leaks can occur from any number of locations on the cylinder, and they are all cause for concern. If you notice leaks from your hot water heater, immediately contact EasyFlow.
