My electric bill is really high, my friend says that leaving the immersion heater on all the time saves money as the cylinder doesn't have to keep reheating from cold. Is this true?

In most cases, no. Leaving an immersion heater on all the time is usually more expensive than heating the water only when you need it. (more)

We have a tempest water cylinder and are having problems with the hot water. We have to keep topping up the pressure and get hot water for a couple of days then it goes again. Central heating fine and oil fired boiler ok.
